ANNUAL GIVING: The Campaign For Heritage

Annual gifts to Heritage Day Health Centers are used to bridge the gap between government reimbursements and the actual cost of client care. As this shortfall in operational funding grows each year, it is through commitment and generosity of donors who give annually that we are able to provide care to our communities’ most deserving citizens. Although any level of financial commitment to support our daily operations is appreciated, you may be interested to know the value of specific gifts.

CAPITAL GIFTS: Caring For The Future ~ Expansion Campaign.

The vision of Heritage Day Health Centers is to have the necessary resources in place to serve Ohio’s baby boomer population as they enter their golden years. Experts predict that by 2020 more than 20% of Franklin County’s population will be 60 years of age or older. Combined with unprecedented increases in life expectancy and the stated preference of the frail elderly to remain in their own homes, even when they experience disabilities, the need for an expansion of adult day services is clear.

Caring For the Future” is an achievable and sustainable expansion plan, endorsed by many of our community’s most prominent leaders. Capital gifts to this campaign will significantly increase Heritage Day Health Centers’ ability to serve the frail elderly in Central Ohio. The initial phase of the plan focuses on a new state of the art adult day center in North Columbus. At completion, the plan will position Heritage Day Health Centers as a leadership model for providing a cost effective approach to care that is preferred by the vast majority of our elder citizens and their caregivers.

Call 614-236-0586 to learn how your investment in Caring for the Future ensures the continuation of a valuable community asset. Our Executive Director or Director of Development are anxious to hear your thoughts and to share our vision.

THE REV. PHALE D. HALE FUND FOR ALZHEIMER’S CARE

This fund was created to honor and celebrate Rev. Phale D. Hale, a highly respected community leader and civil rights activist. In his more than 40 years of service to the Central Ohio community as pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church, a State Representative, president of the Columbus Chapter of the NAACP, and a member of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, among many other affiliations, he has continually exemplified values that Heritage Day Health Centers hold dear: integrity, respect, and a caring concern for fellow citizens.

Mrs. Cleo Hale has played an integral role in helping her husband to achieve great milestones in his career. Now by his side as caregiver, their response to the challenges of aging and living independently are a model of integrity and in self-determination for us all. In their honor we have established “The Rev. Phale D. Hale Fund for Alzheimer’s Care” that will provide a living legacy. The fund will focus on the following areas: (1) Providing scholarships to subsidize Heritage Day Health Centers clients in need and (2) Outreach and support for family and professional caregivers.

PLANNED GIVING ~ LEAVE A LEGACY

A planned gift is any charitable contribution given by an individual donor, immediately or at a later date, that takes into account that individuals’ financial and estate planning and their tax situation. The help of a professional advisor is most important in this process. Planned gifts may be as simple as an outright gift of cash or as sophisticated as a foundation or charitable trust; with many giving options in between.

Planned gifts can include cash, securities, including mutual funds, IRA assets, life insurance policies and even tangible assets such as land or other property.

There are tax benefits afforded to those contributing to charitable gift accounts which are eligible for income tax deductions and removed from donors’ taxable estates. Charitable gift accounts are flexible and tax efficient ways to give and can also compliment more complex vehicles such as private foundations or trusts. When appreciated assets such as stock, which may increase in value, are given to charities, donors avoid capitol gains taxes and may be eligible for income tax deductions.
